Conference Report

This week saw Keir Starmer set out his mission for the next Labour government.

To create an economy that works for working people and gives Britain its hope and its future back.

Labour will fight the Tories on economic growth through ambitious, practical plans for jobs, skills and tackling the climate emergency.

Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan will make Britain a green growth superpower, creating one across the country and allow Britain to lead the world on green policies.

Labour’s plans for 70% homeownership, world-class education and a fully staffed NHS will help working people to succeed and grow the economy from the middle out and the bottom up.

After 12 years of the Tories, Britain is crying out for change.

What we saw this week is that the Labour Party, under Keir Starmer, is ready to deliver.

Exhibition

It was great to see such a lively presence at the exhibition this year, with a broad range of organisations represented.

I particularly enjoyed talking to the Cancer Research UK team about their SmokefreeUK campaign and hearing about the work GambleAware are doing to push the government to publish the long awaited White Paper.

Academy of Royal Colleges Roundtable

I was delighted to join the Academy of Royal Colleges who brought together leaders from across healthcare to discuss the short and long-term solutions to the NHS.

From Royal College presidents to charity leaders, there we some incredibly insightful contributions and I look forward to working with partners throughout the sector to develop practical solutions to the crisis facing our NHS.

British Medical Association Roundtable

I attended a crucial roundtable with the BMA to discuss how we meet the challenge of recruiting and retaining NHS staff.

Workforce is the greatest challenge facing our NHS, yet time after time the government have failed to meet it.

Labour has a plan for record investment in our NHS workforce, that will deliver the staff we need to get patients seen on time.

Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists

On Tuesday I joined a panel being held by the RCOG discussing how women had been left behind in healthcare.

For too long, women’s voices have been at best ignored and at worst silenced.

Under a Labour government, we will ensure women’s health stops being left behind, with record investment in health visitors, midwives, nurses and doctors ensuring women will be able to get the care they need, when they need
