Weekly Round-Up

This week we have seen, less than two months since her appointment, the resignation of Liz Truss as Prime Minister.

This comes after the Chancellor Jeremy Hunt tore up the agenda on which she got elected, and with which she tanked our economy.

She has destroyed any credibility the Conservative Party had on the economy as working families see the cost of their weekly shop, utility bills and mortgage soar.

As is always the case, it is the poorest and most vulnerable in society who are paying the greatest price for Tory failure.

Only a Labour government can deliver fair and equal economic growth that everyone in society benefits from.

We need a general election now. It’s time for this rudderless government to move out of the way and let us get on with the job.

East Kent Maternity Services Statement

Yesterday I responded to a statement following the publication of a review into maternity services at East Kent NHS Trust.

I am heartbroken for the families that this review had to take place, but it is vital that it did.

It cannot be allowed to gather dust on a shelf, and we must see the recommendations implemented at the earliest opportunity.

Opposition Day Debate on Fracking

This week Tory MPs had a choice, they could have supported Labour's motion and their own manifesto commitment to ban fracking, which poses serious risks to local communities and our environment.

The majority chose instead to pin themselves to this shambolic government and break yet another promise.

On fracking Labour is unequivocal. Not now, not ever.

Wren Academy Visit

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of visiting Year 7 pupils at Wren Academy in Enfield.

They gave me some very tough questions and I have no doubt that we will see some of them on the green benches in the future!
