Weekly Update
It was a busy week in Parliament with various events and the Second Reading of the Government’s Rwanda Bill. The Government managed to squeeze the Bill through, despite more than two dozen abstentions. However, costs are now up to £400m and there have still been more Home Secretaries sent to Rwanda than asylum seekers.
There was also more chaos in the lead-up to the vote, with various Tory factions briefing against one another. One thing is clear – Britain deserves better than this mess. The Conservatives are in total civil war, and who is paying the price? Working people.
It was also highlighted in Prime Minister's Questions that nearly 140,000 children are going to be homeless this Christmas, more than ever before. Why? Because we don’t build enough houses and the Government doesn’t want to abolish Section 21 Evictions, despite promising to do so four years ago. This record should shame this Government.
Enfield North Food Bank Donations
Yesterday I visited JJ Food Service to collect their generous Christmas hamper donation.
Local businesses are the backbone of our community, and I know things have been really tough this year, so I am incredibly grateful for their generosity.
We delivered this to North Enfield Foodbank, which has supported residents for twelve years in a row now. It was great to visit the team and thank them for all they did yesterday with our donation!
Hosting Enfield North in Parliament
It was lovely to host friends and businesses from Enfield in parliament this week!
Thanks to all those who came along and I look forward to seeing everyone on the doorstep for Sarah Sackman!
A big thank you to Yvette Cooper MP & Tulip Siddiq MP for their brilliant speeches!
In Conversation with Can Dündar
This week I had the pleasure of interviewing the most brilliant journalist Can Dündar about his latest book, a graphic Biography of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
It is a fascinating, fair, and very detailed account of Erdogan's rise to power- I would recommend it to all to read!
ROJ Women’s Association
It was great to have the ROJ Women's Association visit me in Parliament this week. They went on a formal tour of Parliament followed by a Q&A with me!
