Weekly Round-Up
Any thoughts that we had got over the chaos engulfing this Government were extinguished this week with yet another cabinet minister finding themselves embroiled in a scandal.
Nadhim Zahawi’s attempts to cover up his tax affairs, and then threaten those holding him to account with scurrilous legal action is completely unacceptable.
For a former Chancellor, and now Tory Party Chairman, to act in this way is shameful, made even worse by the PM’s reaction.
By failing to get a grip on this situation, Rishi Sunak has shown how weak his leadership is, and that he is simply not up to the job.
Cervical Cancer Awareness Week
This week is Cervical Cancer Awareness Week, and a chance for us to raise awareness of and take action to address alarmingly low screening rates.
London has some of the lowest screening rates in the country, so as the Shadow Minister responsible for Women’s Health, I joined Shadow Women & Equalities Minister Anneliese Dodds, and our local parliamentary Candidate Rachel Blake, at Victoria Medical Centre in Westminster.
The clinic is doing great work to break down barriers and improve access to screening in their community, something we need to see replicated across the country.
Health Questions
At this month’s Health Questions, I questioned ministers on their failure to deliver on commitments made in the Women’s Health Strategy.
The strategy was a real opportunity to tackle the inequalities that women face, but the Government have completely failed to take it.
The Government need to stop letting women down with empty promises and start delivering.
Watch my question here: Health Questions.
Climate Education Bill
It was a pleasure to join colleagues this week in support of Nadia Whittome MP’s Climate Education Bill.
Ensuring climate change forms part of the curriculum is vital to ensuring future generations have the tools they need to tackle the problems they will face.
Highlands School Visit
It was a pleasure to visit Highlands School this morning, meeting the school leadership team for a tour, and sitting down with the student leadership team to discuss a range of national and local issues.
The students had some really insightful questions and are definitely ones to watch for the future!
