Feryal Clark MP reacts to the Queen’s Speech
Today we have seen a Queen’s Speech that doesn’t put proper detail behind Tory rhetoric on jobs, social care, reducing violent crime and narrowing the gap between different parts of the country, meaning yet another wasted opportunity
The message from last week is that people are demanding and are owed real change. Today, I wanted to see from the Government what that means - not more rhetoric and buzzwords, but a proper plan to get Britain working.
Here in Enfield North, we can see the impact that the ever widening gaps in society, driven by Tory cuts to our local services, have had, and this Queen’s Speech offers nothing to narrow that gap.
The Government had an opportunity to put serious weight behind their “Levelling Up” agenda, yet all we have seen is legislation that pits our communities against each other, and disadvantages the most vulnerable and disenfranchised in our society.
After 11 years in power the Tories have given up defending their record, even they can see the cracks in the walls—from a rise in violent crime, to widespread economic insecurity and a broken social care system.
This is not the time for tinkering around the edges. Instead, we must match the scale of the moment. I want to see an ambitious, bold plan for good jobs, and an end to the insecurity and lack of opportunity in the economy, helping create a brighter future for people here in Enfield North, and across the country.
