Enfield North MP urges constituents to give safely to charities this Christmas

Feryal Clark, MP for Enfield North, has joined charity regulators and Action Fraud to help constituents ensure they give only to genuine registered charities this Christmas, as figures from the National Fraud Reporting Centre show that almost £350,000 of charitable donations ended up in the pockets of criminals over the festive period last year.

Feryal is urging people to check before giving to help ensure their donations reach genuine charities.  Action Fraud, the Charity Commission, and the Fundraising Regulator have warned that while the vast majority of fundraising appeals and collections are genuine, criminals can set up fake charities, or even impersonate well-known charitable organisations, to deceive victims.

By giving to a registered, regulated charity this Christmas, people in Enfield North can be confident that their generous donations will go where they are needed.  To find out which charities are operating in Enfield North please visit the Charity Commission’s improved Register of Charities: https://www.gov.uk/find-charity-information.

Feryal Clark MP said:

“I have been heartened and touched to witness the generous community spirit that people across Enfield North have demonstrated this year, and I know that many constituents will be planning to donate to charities over the festive season.

“When you are making donations, please stay vigilant against scams and ensure you donate only to registered charities.  By doing so, we can ensure your generous donations go where they are most needed - rather than lining the pockets of charity scammers.  Together, we can look after those in Enfield North who most need our help.”
