Weekly Round-Up
This week Rishi Sunak has shown that no matter how many times they change their leader, we will always get the same old Tories.
When Sunak entered Number 10 we were told a sense of calm and order would return to our politics, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Be it flip-flopping on attending the vital COP27 climate summit, to the backtracking and charades over yet another Gavin Williamson related scandal, the Tories are simply incapable of getting on with the job of governing.
The cost-of-living crisis is continuing to cause distress to families and businesses, the NHS is facing yet another winter crisis, and our immigration and asylum system is in total disarray.
Yet the Tories are lurching from one drama to another.
We can’t afford more of the same, we need a general election now.
Health Questions
At Health Questions, I pushed Ministers on the savage cuts they have made to GP services, making it impossible for patients in Enfield North and across the country to get the appointment they need when they need it.
Labour has a clear plan to improve GP access, give people the flexibility they need in making appointments and crucially bring back the family doctor.
The Tories plan? More bluff and bluster and hope the problem goes away.
Opposition Day debate on Pensions
In this week’s Opposition Day debate, I highlighted the damning effect that constant Tory u-turns on keeping the triple lock is having on pensioners in Enfield North.
People who have worked hard all their lives and paid into the system deserve dignity in retirement.
The Tories are putting that at risk.
Pancreatic Cancer debate
Pancreatic Cancer patients are being let down by the Government's complete failure on workforce planning in our NHS.
Waiting times are at record levels, and patients are simply unable to access the care they so desperately need.
Labour's plan will ensure NHS has the staff it needs to get patients seen on time.
Letter to Premier Inn
I wrote to the CEO of Premier Inn this week, following reports of disgraceful treatment towards a guest at their Enfield Hotel who had a guide dog.
Discrimination of this kind is not just totally unacceptable; it is against the law and against the company’s own policy.
