Weekly Round-Up

This week we have seen the devastating human impact of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

My thoughts & prayers are with all those who have been affected.

A loss of life on this scale is absolutely devastating, and the international community must come together and do all it can to support rescue efforts, and provide aid for the serious humanitarian crisis this disaster has created.

Hitting at the peak of winter, in bitterly cold temperatures, with many of the areas affected being remote and cut off, the impact this disaster has had will continue for weeks and months to come.

I will continue to do everything I can in pressing Ministers to ensure our response meets the scale of this crisis.

Prime Minister’s Questions

On Wednesday I questioned the Prime Minister on the scale of the Government’s response to the crisis in Turkey and Syria.

The nature of this disaster means that the effects will be felt by communities affected for a long time to come.

We need to ensure those communities have the aid and support they need to meet the challenges they will face.

Treasury Questions

At Treasury Questions, I pushed ministers on how the Treasury allowed a sanctioned Russian warlord to pursue legal action against a British citizen.

This is wholly unacceptable and undermines our sanctions regime.

We need answers now, not for this to be kicked into the long grass.

Visit of President Zelensky to Parliament

I had the honor of joining colleagues from across both houses, to listen to an address from the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

His powerful words reinforce our determination to do all we can to support Ukraine.

We stand united in the belief that Ukraine must win, and Putin must be defeated.
