Weekly Round-Up

This week saw more shameful headlines from the Government’s flagship ‘Illegal Migration Bill’, a re-run of a failed 2022 law. This bill isn’t a solution, it’s a con that risks making the chaos worse.

Labour also pledged to make childcare reform its first priority as part of a mission to break down barriers to opportunity, after a new analysis shows costs to parents grow despite free hours.

Once again, it has been a week of more Conservative chaos, with Labour left to pick up the pieces and sort the Government’s mess out.

East Kent Inquiry

The Government’s response to the review into maternity services in East Kent this week was pathetic.

It has taken them four months to conclude that they will require trusts to “review their approach to reputation management”. Yet, the Trust is still failing women with poor quality of care and a lack of staff.

Labour will train 10,000 extra nurses and midwives and introduce a statutory duty of candour on public servants, preventing further injustices and ensuring that mothers and newborns receive the safe, comfortable care they deserve.

International Women’s Day

It was an honour to host the inspirational women from Enfield at Parliament today to celebrate International Women's Day.

A great opportunity to network and to hear from women about their work.

I pay tribute to women of Enfield North who make our communities stronger, break barriers in every field, who volunteer their time & talent to support us all & who stand up for justice & equality

Rare Diseases Westminster Hall Debate

On Thursday, I scrutinised the Government’s 2023 Rare Diseases Action Plan in Parliament.

Although a rare disease is generally considered as one affecting one in 2000 people, there are around 3.5 million people in the UK living with one of over 7,000 rare diseases.

I want to ensure that all rare disease patients, whether children or adults, have access to the best knowledge, diagnosis and treatment available.

You can watch a snippet of my contribution below.

Canal and River Trust

I was grateful to be invited to the Canal and River trust on Friday and be shown the amazing work they do.

They do brilliant work with the local children & community & more planned for the future.

Even more reason for water companies to stop dumping sewage into it!
