Weekly Round-Up
The situation in Ukraine continues to be deeply worrying, and the humanitarian crisis it has created is becoming more serious by the day.
There will be considerable relief that the Government has now accepted we must do more to help.
But there remain significant questions about gaps in the system and delays, so we remain concerned about whether they will deliver the much-needed support and sanctuary in practice.
We need a simple commitment from the Home Office that family members fleeing war in Europe are all welcome here in the UK and that they won’t be turned away just because their relative here is on a work or study visa rather than having permanent leave to remain, or if their relative is an aunt or uncle rather than a parent.
The Ukrainian people are showing great courage and strength in the face of an appalling Russian onslaught, and we need to support them - including through giving sanctuary to those fleeing war in Europe as we have done in generations past.
Health Questions
In this month's Health Questions, I called out the 12 years of inaction from the Tories on addressing the systemic ethnic disparities in our health service.
The NHS Race and Health Observatory Report is damning and highlights the failure of the government to take meaningful action to tackle the disparities that ethnic minority patients are facing.
We have had enough talk and enough warm words, ethnic minority patients now need action.
Local Business Survey
Local businesses are the backbone of our community here in Enfield North but are facing some tough challenges.
I want to be a champion for local business in Parliament, so if you're a business owner (or know someone who is) in Enfield North, please fill out or pass on my local business survey so I can make sure the views of our local business community are heard: https://bit.ly/LocalBizSurveyEN.
