Weekly Round Up
Another week, another set of scandals engulfing this shameful Conservative government.
First it was the security mishaps of the Home Secretary, now we have a Deputy Prime Minister being investigated for bullying after multiple allegations have been made against him.
We have also seen yet more dodgy Tory contracts, with allegations suggesting that a PPE company, with significant links to a Conservative peer, was awarded a £203 million contract during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Tories have not just lost their grip on our economy, they have lost their grip on the party itself and are descending further and further into chaos.
The risk is now not changing our government but sticking with the reckless and incompetent Tories.
The people of Enfield North, and people across the UK, need change with Labour, and a general election now to deliver it.
NHS Workforce Debate
After 12 years of Tory mismanagement, our NHS is in crisis and the Government have no plan to fix it.
Labour’s plan would deliver the biggest expansion of medical school places in NHS history, funded by abolishing non-dom tax status, to give the NHS the doctors and nurses it needs to get patients seen on time.
Given they have no plan of their own, the Government are more than welcome to nick Labour’s plan, something their own Chancellor has recommended they do.
Watch my response to this week’s crucial debate on NHS workforce.
NATO Parliamentary Assembly
Over the weekend I attended a meeting of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Madrid, joining parliamentarians from across NATO member states to discuss some key issues, with a particular focus on the conflict in Ukraine.
I was particularly pleased to be joined by so many women from other NATO member states and discuss the important role of women in peacebuilding and conflict resolution, with the need to achieve gender equality in defence.
White Ribbon Day
I was pleased to join with Labour’s Shadow Minister for Women & Equalities, Anneliese Dodds, to reaffirm Labour’s commitment to end violence against Women and Girls, ahead of the UN’s annual White Ribbon Day.
Whether toughening sentences, setting up specialist courts, or establishing a Domestic Violence Register, Labour will be unequivocal in ending this violence which takes lives and destroys families.
