Enfield North MP calls on Prime Minister to support schools and colleges
Feryal Clark, MP for Enfield North, has called on the Prime Minister to provide additional financial support to enable schools to cover their mounting Covid-related costs.
Speaking during the Prime Minister’s statement on plans for England after the lockdown ends on 2nd December, Clark highlighted that many schools in Enfield North were struggling with their budgets even before the pandemic came along. The added cleaning and social distancing measures, procurement of laptops for virtual learning, and supply teachers needed to cover absences are putting an unwelcome strain on already stretched budgets.
Feryal Clark MP said:
“Our teachers have been phenomenal during this crisis – they’ve prepared lessons and adapted them for virtual teaching, they’ve reassured our kids when they feel overwhelmed, and they’ve returned to work and supported our children as normal despite these difficult times.
“They need better support, and they should not have to worry about whether they can afford to pay cover teachers, or pay for additional cleaning, or find the IT support necessary for students to continue virtual learning.
“The Government rightly says that our children should not be disadvantaged by school closures, but teachers and school management need financial help to ensure that they can maintain school provision safely. Boris Johnson and his Government must step up”.
