Weekly Round-Up

Another week, another shameful exposure of Number 10’s approach to COVID regulations, and another attempt by the Prime Minister to wriggle out of taking responsibility.

The series of revelations about parties and other events at Downing St have made a mockery of all who followed the rules - often at great personal cost.

Boris Johnson repeatedly claimed that no rules were broken in Number 10 but the truth is out, he lied to the public and lied to Parliament.

Of course it’s right there’s an inquiry but we shouldn’t need that for the Prime Minister to tell the truth.

Boris Johnson holds the British public in contempt, and it is time for him to go.

Westminster Hall Debate on Access to Radiotherapy

I was delighted to respond on behalf of the Labour Party to an important debate on access to radiotherapy.

Like so many cases across the NHS, workforce issues are central to the problems radiotherapy is facing.

A workforce survey carried out by Radiotherapy UK showed that 80% of radiotherapy staff were, or knew of someone, considering leaving the profession.

90% felt that the government did not recognise the significant role radiotherapy has to play in reducing the cancer backlog, and 75% felt that they did not have capacity to reach pre-pandemic service levels.

As a core pillar of cancer treatment, radiotherapy is vital to overcoming the cancer backlog but has been consistently overlooked by policy makers, with patients and staff suffering as a result.

The 40% of cancer patients who need radiotherapy deserve better and it is time for the government to act.

Walk in Jabs

The pandemic is far from over and one of things we can all do to help fight COVID is get our vaccine or booster.

There are a number of walk-in sites across Enfield where you will be able to get your jab, you can just turn up with no need to book.

You can find your nearest walk in site here, so if you haven’t go and get your booster or vaccine today, and lets all play our part in keeping ourselves and our community safe.
