Press Release: Local MP welcomes Arts Council grants for Enfield North but warns more support is needed for sector

Feryal Clark, MP for Enfield North, has welcomed this week’s announcement from the Arts Council England that two grants amounting to £600,000 have been made to Enfield Council and Border Crossings Theatre Productions.

However, Clark has warned that a significant number of artists and creative industry employees are facing financial difficulty as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, and has urged the Government to do more to support this high-value industry.

Feryal Clark, MP for Enfield North, said:

“Coronavirus has presented an unprecedented challenge for businesses - but particularly those who are part of our world-renowned creative sector.  I am pleased that this funding has been granted but I know that for many organisations it will be too little, too late.

The appetite for the productions and performances streamed during lockdown have shown just how important the creative sector is to the country’s well being - and it also plays an incredibly important economic role, with the creative industries contributing £111.7 billion to the UK economy last year.  It's vital that the Government does more to ensure that we can continue to enjoy the arts once the pandemic is over - and to protect the jobs of those working in the sector in the meantime”.
